Shrimp are the most important seafood products in the international market due to their high nutritional value and demand for their taste. The development of shrimp farming has been driven by the growing demand for shrimp in both domestic and international markets. The shrimp farming industry has evolved over time and has become an important source of livelihood for many people in developing countries. This article aims to provide a comprehensive overview of shrimp farming, its history, environmental impacts, and economic importance.


Shrimp farming has a long history dating back to the eighth century in China when it was first documented. The practice of shrimp farming then spread to other Asian countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
