About the Study

Adult Education (AE) is distinct from child education, it is a practice in which adults engage in systematic and sustained self-educating activities in order to gain new kind of knowledge, and skills. Adult Education (AE) means any form of learning adults engage in beyond traditional schooling, encompassing basic literacy to personal achievement as a lifelong learner and to ensure the achievement of an individual.

The primary purpose of Adult Education (AE) is to provide a second chance for those who are poor in society and who have lost access to education for different reasons in order to achieve social justice and equal access to education. Therefore, adult education is a social policy of the government. Continuing education can help adults maintain certifications, fulfill job requirements on new developments in their field.

Adult Education (AE) is differs from teaching children in various methods given that adults have accumulated knowledge and work experience which can add to the learning experience. Most adult education is voluntary therefore, the participants are generally selfmotivated, unless required to participate through an employer. The practice of adult education is called as andragogy to distinguish it from the traditional school based education for children. Adults are mature and have knowledge gained life experiences which provide them a foundation of learning.

The main function of directorate of Adult Educations (AE) are as follows: To provide educational and technical resource support to National Literacy Mission, Prepare guidelines for development of teaching and learning materials, Organize training and orientation programmers, and Monitor the progress and status of literacy Campaigns and to provide regular feedback to National Literacy Mission.

Adult Education (AE) and Adult Learning (AL) is an integral part of the education and learning, and comprises different kind of education and learning that aim to ensure that all adults participate in their societies and the world of work. It denotes the entire body of learning processes, formal, and informal, whereby those regarded as adults through the society in which they live, develop and enrich their capabilities for living and working, both in their own interests and those of their communities, organizations and societies The purpose of adult education can be vocational, for selfdevelopment, and social.

The goals may be to help adult learners satisfy their personal needs and achieve their professional goals. With the improvement of economic system and the development of society, the requirement of human quality has been raised. The goal might also be to achieve an institutional need. For example, this might include improving its operational productivity.

Adult education takes area in the workplace, through school of continuing education. Other learning places include high schools, colleges and libraries, and lifelong learning centers. The practice is also called as Training and Development and it is associated with professional development.

It has also known as andragogy. Adult Education (AE) is different from Vocational Education (VE), which is mostly used in workplace based for skill improvement and also from non-formal adult education, which includes learning skills and learning for personal development.
